The values are made up in order to give people "ethical rules" in their own society.
Our values in Finland differ from the values of people living in the southern countries. We appreciate integrity, helping the weak, education, hard work etc. Integrity is a value which has made us incredibly popular abroad, though some people claim that we avoid lying just because we are so shy people. I think it's very important to raise children to know the good and the right values they need to succeed in the future. It may be very dangerous to let children absorb wrong attitudes for example towards living. Even though we appreciate the same things we did a hundered of years ago our values have changed much. It's mainly because of the changing and industrializing society that people have become more tolerant towards several things. Nowadays when it's possible to have large amounts of goods and material we have forgotten to appreciate the small joys in our lives. We appreciate more efficiency and results than working because we live so hectical lives in this society. It's sad but true that values are changing in the wrong direction because of developement and all the luxuries we gain. | |||||||||||||||||||||
