RefugeesWhat a controversial topic! Rather than cool and reasonable, debates about refugees are usually heated and emotional. While some feel that helping people in distress is our duty, others are afraid of how a large influx of refugees could change the Finnish society.The question is undoubtedly a complicated one. It is clear that many refugees have difficulty in adapting to the Finnish way of life. On the other hand, their life might be in danger if we were to decline their requests for an asylum. I feel that due to the current politically correct atmosphere there has never been a realistic discussion on what to do with refugees. What to do is a key expression in this issue. Perhaps the welfare system doesn't provide enough support for refugees to help them find their place in society. Whatever the causes of the problems we are facing are, both the refugees and us Finns will have to learn to respect each other before we can build a better country together. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
